Title: War of the Human Tanks - Limited Operations
Genre: Adventure, Indie, Strategy
Release Date: 13 Jun, 2016
If you're new to the WotHT series, it's great and I highly recommend it but this is the third game in the series so feel free to check out the previous two games first.
If you're a WotHT veteran, this game plays exactly the same as the previous two but with one major twist in resource management. The "Limited" in the title refers to the fact that you aren't able to collect crates and build units as you please any more. You're given a limited supply of units for each mission. You do have two special units (well, one, really) which are Hotaru, who is played up as a powerful unit by the story but turns out to be a bog standard Command unit, and your actual special unit, a Mihari Scout unit, who has exceptional scouting abilities for the start of the game. Then you're given a handful of other units to choose from to deploy as you see fit.
It doesn't seem to be a perma-death scenario, though. I haven't noticed any correlation between the units left over from the previous mission and the ones I start with on the next mission. Considering you can go back and replay missions without directly continuing from the previous one, I think it's safe to assume that's the case.
I can't really say whether the new resource management is good or bad. On the one hand, I liked building up a super powerful squad and crushing my opponent but, on the other hand, it does take the strategy out of the game when you can simply scount the entire map and then level it all in one turn. It's a matter of balance and this time they balanced it for maximum strategy.
Overall, it's still a great game for fans of the series so definately pick it up.. I like the war of the human tank series, but sadly, I can't get behind this one. the gameplay is basicly the same like in the first 2 games, there is pretty much no new unit added to your roster(unless you count your unlimited range scouting unit and\/or the ovassionally changing command unit, but in terms of basic troops everything as usual).
The game also predictates a lot of your roster, so you won't be able to build your army as much to your playstyle, which is pretty much predictated by the missiondesign anyway. In the missions you can win by simply having an army advantage it doesn't matter, but the ones where you have to kill all enemy command units before the timer runs out pretty much forces you to rush all in with all your units, to even REACH the command units in time, most of said missions, slower units like the artillery unit therefore become a disadvantage pretty quik. And there are A LOT of stupid skirmish missions that have no influence on your progression or the overarching story whatsoever, special missions like the awesome fight with the train in the first game are pretty rare.
Also the story didn't really catch me this time around, in the first 2 games you were always a nation on the brinck of loosing a war, this time though, you are simply regular army guy fighting against some terrorist group.
I could have looked past all of these things though, if it wasn't for the dreadfull options... the game is still in 4:3, you can't adjust soundsettings ingame, fullscreening it weirdly stretches it and so on and so forth... I was willing to look past that in the first one, since I liked the interesting combat system, and I also ignored it in the second game, just because I was finally able to play as the way cooler "bad guys", but this is the third installment in the series, with nothing new gameplaywise, weaker story and still the same bad option-menue!? I mean seriously, come on...
Still love WOTHT 1+2, but part 3 just feels lazy in every aspect.. In the first game, it was a normal fight
In the Seccond game, it was facing horrifically overpowered units with tank specs dwarfing any in the first game fight
And now they have struck at our heart.
There is no crate farming <\/b>
There is no grinding for OP units <\/b>
However will we survive now?. Just like the original this is an excellent turn based strategy game courtesy of doujin developer Yakiniku Banzai.. This is the third and final game in the Human Tanks series. With the fuel of the human tanks running out, the era is drawing to a close. And as such, you are leading some of the last Human Tanks in existence to subjugate some last remaining issues. Gameplay is fun, and hte story is nice.
Play the titles in order for the best experience.
And perhaps by them all in the bundle.. Just like the original this is an excellent turn based strategy game courtesy of doujin developer Yakiniku Banzai.
